What's New in the Fall 2026 Update

Aventon's Smart Bike Ecosystem is built to keep getting better after you buy the bike. The ACU (Aventon Control Unit), the brain of the system, lets us add new features to bikes already on the road, delivered as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update straight from the Aventon app.

The Fall 2026 update brings six new trail features to every tier of the Aventon Current eMTB, plus security and display upgrades for more of our ACU-equipped lineup. On the Current, these features work across the Aventon app, the integrated top-tube display, and the wireless control pod, and each one is built specifically for mountain biking.
Ready to install? Update through the Aventon app under Settings → System Maintenance → Update Firmware. Full steps are at the end of this post.

New for the Aventon Current eMTB

Six of this update's nine features are built for the Current and its in-house Ultro X mid-drive motor.

Traction Control System

Loose dirt, mud, and wet roots can break your rear wheel loose. With up to 110 Nm of torque from the Ultro X, or 120 Nm in Boost, a spinning tire is a real possibility on steep, slick climbs.
A bike only drives through its rear wheel, so once that tire spins, your forward momentum is gone. eMTB Traction Control responds to that slip by reducing power to the drivetrain, giving the tire a chance to grip again so you can keep climbing.
Turn Traction Control on in the Aventon app. It's most useful in loose or wet conditions, where it gives you more control and more confidence on climbs that would otherwise end with a foot down.

Route Navigation

Most riders plan routes in Strava, Trailforks, or Garmin Connect and follow them on a phone or bike computer. That works until the phone dies or the head unit runs out of battery halfway through the ride.
Route Navigation puts your route on the Current itself. Upload any third-party GPX file through the Aventon app, sync it to the bike, and follow it on the top-tube display with a built-in compass. Navigation runs offline, so it keeps working when you lose cell signal.
To load a route:
    1. 1. Export your route as a GPX file from your planning app.
  1. 2. In the Aventon app, open the Routes menu from the main page and import the file.
  2. 3. Sync the route to your Current.
  3. 4. On the top-tube display, swipe down and select Route Navigation.
Turn alerts give you a heads-up up to 100 meters (about 330 feet) before each turn. Switch them on or off in the top-tube display settings.

Shuttle Mode

Some trails are a blast on the way down and a slog on the way back up: the kind of lap that usually needs a truck. Shuttle Mode is built for that return climb.

This new ebike shuttle mode borrows from where ebikes started: cadence-based assist. When it's on, every pedal assist mode switches to cadence-based assist, so you get back to the trailhead quickly and save your legs for the descent. Assist still stops at your bike's class speed limit.
Turn Shuttle Mode on from the top-tube display or the Aventon app. If you use it often, assign it to the control pod in the Devices menu on the top-tube display, so it's one press away.

Heart Rate Based Auto Mode

Our May 2026 update added heart rate monitor compatibility to the Current. Heart Rate Based Auto Mode puts that data to work.
Set the heart rate zone you want to ride in, and Auto Mode adjusts its assistance to keep you there. Pick the zone, and the bike handles the pacing.
Set your heart rate range and target zone in the Aventon app or the top-tube display menu. When it's active, a heart icon appears next to the Auto Mode indicator at the bottom of the display. Curious how much of a workout an eMTB really gives you? Here's the honest answer.

Ride Tune: Max Power

Ride Tune lets you shape how the motor responds in every pedal assist mode except Boost, from the Aventon app or right on the top-tube display. Until now, you could adjust one limit: Max Torque. The Fall 2026 update adds a second, Max Power.
  • - Max Torque shapes low-cadence response: the kick you feel on steep pitches and grinding sections of trail.
  • - Max Power shapes high-cadence response: how the bike feels when you're spinning on fire roads or between trailheads.
The motor follows whichever limit it reaches first. Power is torque multiplied by how fast you're pedaling, so at a slow cadence you hit the torque limit first; spin faster and the power limit takes over.
That gives you two separate dials. Lower Max Power to calm the motor once you're up to speed. Lower Max Torque for a more natural, acoustic-like feel on technical, rolling trails.

Crank Position Detection

Good crank position is a core mountain bike skill. Level pedals on descents help you avoid pedal strikes, and the right foot position through corners keeps you balanced.
The Ultro X motor now tracks your crank position through descents and corners, and the updated Ride Report in the Aventon app shows how consistently your pedals were placed. Use it to spot habits and build better technique ride over ride.
Before you can use Crank Position Detection, complete Crank Calibration [confirm location: app, display, or both].

Updates Across the Aventon Lineup

Three more updates reach beyond the Current to other ACU-equipped bikes.

Unusual Activity Detection Alarm Update

Previously, simply powering on the bike would disarm the Unusual Activity Detection Alarm. That's no longer enough. Now the alarm can only be silenced early by entering your bike's password; otherwise it sounds for 30 seconds. The goal is to draw attention to a theft attempt and make the alarm harder to shut down.
Available on the Current and on ACU-equipped models including the Pace 4 and 5, Level 3 and 4, Aventure 3, and Aventure M. For more on how the Current protects itself, see which Current has the edge for theft deterrence.

Transport Mode Without the Battery

Transport Mode keeps Unusual Activity Detection and the alarm from going off while your bike rides on a car rack. It used to run off the main battery. Now you can pull the battery first, which makes the bike lighter and easier to lift onto the rack, and still turn Transport Mode on.
To turn on Transport Mode without the main battery:
  1. 1. Remove the main battery.
  2. 2. Press and hold the power button to wake the ACU on its own backup power [confirm customer-facing name].
  3. 3. Connect in the Aventon app and turn on Transport Mode.

Three Data Fields Per Page

Riders who live in the data asked for more on screen, and this update delivers: each display page can now show three data fields. Pair motor vs. rider torque or power with grade, compass, or another field, and see more of your ride at a glance without paging through screens.
Available on the Pace 5, Level 4 REC and ADV, and every tier of the Current.

How to Get the Fall 2026 Update

Install the update over the air from the Aventon app. When it's available, follow the update prompt in the app, or go to Settings → System Maintenance → Update Firmware and install the latest firmware [add version number].
Don't have the app yet? Download it on the App Store or Google Play.

Fall 2026 Update FAQ

Which Aventon bikes get the Fall 2026 update?

Every tier of the Aventon Current gets the six new trail features. The alarm update also comes to the Pace 4 and 5, Level 3 and 4, Aventure 3, and Aventure M, and three data fields per page come to the Pace 5 and Level 4 REC and ADV.

How do I update my Aventon ebike's firmware?

Open the Aventon app and follow the update prompt, or go to Settings → System Maintenance → Update Firmware.

Can I use a Strava or Trailforks route on my Aventon Current?

Yes. Export the route as a GPX file, import it under Routes in the Aventon app, and sync it to your Current.

Does Route Navigation work without my phone?

Yes. Once a route is synced, it runs offline on the Current's top-tube display with a built-in compass.

What is Shuttle Mode on an ebike?

Shuttle Mode switches every pedal assist mode on the Current to cadence-based assist, so you can climb back to the trailhead quickly with less effort. Assist still stops at your bike's class speed limit.

Where do I turn on Traction Control?

In the Aventon app. It's most useful in loose or wet conditions.
