From Weekend Rider to Everyday Explorer
October 15, 2026
I bought my first adult bicycle with a very simple goal: get outside more.
I wasn't training for a race. I didn't have an ambitious mileage target. I just wanted something that would pull me away from my desk and give me a reason to spend more time outdoors.
At first, five miles felt like an accomplishment.
I'd ride through my neighborhood on Sunday mornings, usually stopping for coffee before heading home.
It was simple, and I loved it.
Five Miles Became Ten
As the weeks passed, my confidence grew.
I started exploring the trails outside town. Then came longer rides along the coast, weekend trips to neighboring communities, and spontaneous detours whenever something caught my attention.
One morning, I rode nearly twenty miles without realizing it.
I wasn't watching the clock. I was enjoying myself too much.
Finding My Own Pace
What I appreciate most about riding is the freedom to make each trip my own.
Some days, I want to challenge myself. Other days, I want to cruise along the waterfront, listen to the birds, and stop whenever I find a beautiful view.
There's no pressure to make every ride an achievement.
Sometimes, simply getting outside is enough.
A Year Later
My bicycle has taken me to places I probably never would have visited otherwise.
I've discovered quiet beaches, hidden neighborhood cafés, and beautiful stretches of road just a few miles from home.
But the biggest change has been in my everyday life.
I spend more time outside. I feel more connected to my surroundings. And I look forward to finding little opportunities to ride.
I started with five miles.
Now, I'm always wondering where I might go next.
